Bloopers on the set of Fear and War

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Ah fun. A lot of things went strangely on the day we shot the footage for Fear and War – my first live action video clip. Take a look…

I thank Laura for being my hair and make-up artist, a job really well done! And, for being such a trooper when it came to clowning around with me on the bluescreen later in the day. You rock Laura!

Of course, I give credit to my lovely husband James for being Mr. Video Man on the day.

Making of ‘Fear & War’

Monday, April 12th, 2010

I thought I’d keep you all in the loop with this video clip I’ve been promising for some time now. The song Fear & War is from my upcoming 2010 album  (unnamed atm).

James and I are doing a clip using stock footage from certain wars, with myself somehow  included in the shots. So first we needed a bluescreen. We picked up about 5.4 metres x 1.48 metres of blue material which put us out about $35. We had the sales clerk keep the material on the roll so all we’d have to do to attach it to the wall was buy a wooden pole ($7) and 2 hooks ($8) – we’re renting this place, so we required self adhesive hooks so we didn’t damage the walls.  Have a look.

Note: Brick walls are not very good at holding adhesive hooks – but with a bit of tape, anything is possible.

Then we needed lighting.

We went to Bunnings and purchased 4 lights:   2x Fairway Quartz Halogen 1000w floodlight &  2x Fairway Quartz Halogen 150w floodlight

They give a yellow light and they heat up quickly – the bulbs are very easily blown if you move them while they’re hot so be careful. However, the lights on the stand were $40 each and the floor lights were $11 each so we’re not complaining.

Due to the video clip being mostly black and white, we can take away all that yellow light and no one will ever know.

The next day, at 7am, my very talented hair & make-up artist, Laura Hulbert arrived (also, a very good friend). We began doing all those things that make one not seem colourless in front of 1300 watts of light.

Here’s what we ended up with:

Then the filming began.

I must say I was a bit nervous even with just my husband and a  friend in the room – but after a few minutes of giggles and stuff-ups, I relaxed and yeah, take a look at how it went:

VC update 1.2.10

Monday, February 1st, 2010

You may have heard about the video clip I’m working on for the song Slave – well, it’s taken a backseat for this new song I’ve composed called ‘Fear and War’. Sorry to anyone who was waiting for the Slave VC to happen – Fear and War is a lot less involved with props and costumes and actors etc so it’s (in my opinion) the better VC to start with.

A sample of the song should be available for you to listen to in the next few weeks. I’m tipping that the VC will be completed in the next 2-3 months if all goes well.
